Michelina Artist

My work conceptualizes topics related to the authenticity of self, interpersonal connections, and emotional intelligence through dance on film. To know one’s authentic self is to gain an inner compass for a wholesome life, and art offers a space to learn this intimate knowledge. Through Michelina’s artistic style of light and movement, dance becomes an emotional release into the camera formed into several screendance films. Their latest screendance film, “Connection” delves into the interconnected healing of the artist’s mind within the depths of the rural Amazon region of Ucayali, Peru with the Centro Selva Artist in Residency Program 2021.  Dance in nature becomes the journey of how the artist revives the dissociative mind back into the body, listens to suppressed emotions while embracing them for what they are saying, and cultivates a stronger understanding of identity and sense of self.
