Episode Description
The idea for the Payphone video was a legit "found sounds" song, where we made a beat out of sounds we recorded in Soldotna, AK and then recorded the song over that beat. It took some serious trial and error - we had to scrap a whole day of unusable audio, then go back out with a different recording method.
Once we figured that out, I brought the sounds back into the studio and started to put them all together. There aren't any YouTube videos on how to mix & produce dumpsters, so I had to wing it. Once the beat started clicking, the rest of the track came together in a really cool, urban way.
I took lots of arrangement liberties, with switch-ups in the beat and a new rap (that I wrote at 2 in the morning, the night before filming). I hope you love it, and hear a new side to Payphone!
