Willie McCool Regional Park is the most remote site in our parks system. Surrounded by open desert, the facility is used as both a model airplane flying field and a trial nursery, making it a truly unique place. Residents fly model airplanes every day of the week, with special meets and competitions sponsored by various clubs and organizations. At the other end of the park, the University of Nevada at Reno and the Cooperative Extension Service have established an experimental garden to test water usage and the adaptability of non-native plants to our harsh desert climate. Willie McCool Regional Park is large, with plenty of land remaining open for other uses.
