Pahrump, Nevada, is known to folks in Las Vegas as the “Gateway to Death Valley”. To the indigenous Southern Paiute tribe it was known as Pah-Rimpi, or “Water Rock,” so named because of the abundant artesian wells in the valley. It may seem odd to some but today the unincorporated desert settlement of Pahrump, population 36,441, is home to a multi-award-winning vineyard and restaurant: The Pahrump Valley Winery & Symphony’s Restaurant.
