Jen Kramer is magic. She turns the impossible into the impossible-to-ignore, wowing audiences with her contagious smile and world-class sleight-of-hand. Named Female Magician of the Year by the International Magicians Society, Jen graduated with honors in Theater from Yale University and has been featured on television shows including Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Masters of Illusion and NBC’s TODAY Show. She was also named a 40 Under 40 honoree by VEGAS INC and serves on the Advisory Board for the nonprofit organization Magicians Without Borders.
Jen headlines her own show in Las Vegas at Westgate Resort & Casino. The Magic of Jen Kramer features mind-boggling magic and mentalism, comedy, and audience participation. You’ll be amazed as Jen predicts what you’re thinking, makes a signed hundred-dollar bill magically appear inside a tube of lipstick, and even creates a larger-than-life social media page on stage. Her performances are full of unforgettable magic and jaw-dropping fun!
In this video, I share how I started learning magic and my vision for the channel, then we film for TV, rehearse magic, and visit our friend @Andrei Jikh 's beautiful home YouTube studio. Thank you, Andrei and Corrie (and Rito! 🐶), for having us!
After graduating from Yale University in 2014, I moved out to Las Vegas to pursue magic full-time. I currently headline my magic show at Westgate Resort & Casino right here in Las Vegas. So if you’ve ever been curious about what the day-to-day life of a Las Vegas magician is like, then this is the video for you! 🪄✨
I first started learning magic when my Uncle Steve gave me a book for my 10th birthday called The Royal Road to Card Magic by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue. That seemingly small moment had an outsized – magical! – impact on my life.
In this video and on this channel, I want to share magic with you and also give you a peek behind the curtain, at the show behind the show, the magic behind the magic. The creative process, the business side of show biz, the people, the adventures.
I want this content to be helpful for you – to entertain you and add to your life. As I run my business, I’m always learning, I always want to keep improving – to keep leveling up the magic in my life.
So on this channel, I’d like to share what I’ve learned so far and what I’m continuing to learn – the practical tips (and tricks!) that you can apply to your own life. I’d love for this content to hopefully help you live a life that’s happy, healthy, productive - and yes… magical. :)
Preparing for TV filming: Taking you behind the scenes for hair and make-up with Catrina in the early morning. Thank you, Catrina! We’re getting ready today for some TV shoots at the Westgate Cabaret. First we’re doing the MORE show on FOX. Mike Davis is coming to the theater, and I created a special magic trick just for the MORE show. Then later in the day we have another TV project also filming at the theater, which I’m excited about as well.
Next up: Scripting/Rehearsing
On Zoom: Mark and I are collaborating on a presentation for a piece of magic that I’ve performed for many years. After performing it for many years, I had my way of performing that routine, and we’re revamping it – to give it a different storyline, a different emotional feeling for the audience. So the piece of paper I’m holding - those are my notes as we’re coming up with a new script for this routine.
Part of what I love about having a script is that it gives me the freedom to deviate from that script. If something happens in the moment, something unexpected, which of course is part of the fun of live showbiz, those unexpected moments. Maybe it’s something funny an audience member said, maybe it’s something that happened on a particular night but that doesn’t usually happen. It means that I can be present, I can be in the moment, I can totally go off script and just improv with the audience and have fun in that moment – but I know that I always have the script, the thing that I’ve prepared, to come back to – and being able to mix those prepared moments with those improv moments is part of what I love about doing a live show.
Andrei Jikh's YouTube Studio: We are at my friend Andrei Jikh’s house, admiring his lovely YouTube setup here. For example, he just showed us that this [gesturing] looks just like a window light – you would imagine that there’s a window reflecting that light, but it’s a cool cinematographer trick…
One of the things that I love about doing magic professionally, especially here in Vegas, is that no day is the same. It’s constantly balancing working on the content of the show itself and working on promoting the show, spreading the word about the show.
If there is something that you are particularly interested in, curious about, if you want to know more about the business side of show business, if you want to know more about the performance side, or about what it’s like to really live and work in Las Vegas, if you want to hear from Dylan (boyfriend of 6 years) about what it’s like to date a professional magician… Whatever it is you’re interested in, we are experimenting with this content and we can absolutely tailor it to what might interest you the most.
