Lou's Diner located in the Alta Decatur Shopping Village a few miles northwest of the strip. It's a family owned and operated diner that's been open since 1969 and although its changed owners a few times, not much has changed since it first opened. Walking inside you get the feel of a classic diner experience with the decor and interior decorations.

All the food is made from scratch and they have a variety of breakfast and lunch favorites. They make homemade pies and cakes daily as well, but go there early because they can sell out quickly.

For starters they serve a complimentary plate of crackers and homemade Jam. They serve different jams depending on what fruit is in season and today we were served 4 different kinds: Raspberry, Strawberry, Peaches, and Tropical Flavor. Tropical consists of Mangos, Papaya, Pineapple, and Strawberry. The tropical flavor was our favorite. They do sell jars of these jams for $10 each and we liked it so much we bought a couple bottles to take home.

For breakfast we ordered the Chicken Fried Steak meal for $14.99 and it comes with 2 eggs, toast, and your choice of hashbrowns, home fries, rice, or grits. I got the hashbrowns with my order and my friend also ordered the Chicken Fried Steak but substituted her toast for some fresh fruit. I also got the Everything Omelette with hashbrowns and toast for $13.99. The Everything Omelette is made of 3 eggs and has ham, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers, mushrooms, jalapenos, and cheese in it. I ordered mine without jalapenos because I can't handle spicy things.

And no diner experience is complete without ordering a classic Rootbeer Float. It was $5.99 and pretty tasty. I only now realize after looking at the menu again that its listed as $4.50 on the menu. I think they accidentally charged me the price of the milkshake instead of a rootbeer float. My friend also ordered a soda for $2.75. Total: $78.80 with tax but not including tip.

All the food here was good and I especially enjoyed the Chicken Fried Steak. Just the chicken fried steak by itself is plenty of food for one person and I could not even finish it all. The service was good too with the owner himself checking up on us to make sure everything was okay and it did not take long for the food to come out either.
