Southern Highlands Dog Park, also known as the Cactus Jones Dog Park, is a public dog park located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The dog park has a well-designed layout that includes two separate long and narrow areas for dogs to play and socialize in without wearing a leash. There is a large dog area and a small dog run, both of which offer a big amount of space for dogs to run and exercise with their four-legged buddies. The large dog run is very spacious which means it doesn’t feel crowded even at the busier times, such as the weekends, and allows dogs to have their own space to explore and sniff. Its surface is mainly made up of dirt, while the small dog section is grassy which dogs seem to appreciate a lot. The dog park is equipped with water bowls and drinking fountains that keep dogs cool and hydrated throughout the summer. There are several benches placed throughout the off-leash areas that allow owners to keep an eye on their dogs while remaining seated. Thanks to the mature trees that grow throughout the Southern Highlands Dog Park there is plenty of shade for the park’s patrons to cool off in. Trash cans and free waste bag dispensers are available at the park as well which explains why the park is so well-maintained and clean. Tennis balls can be found scattered in both areas, and owners are welcome to use them to play with their dogs. According to the regular patrons, the park’s biggest disadvantage is that there is no parking. If you are visiting by car, you can park across the street on a dirt lot. Another aspect that needs to be considered is that the Southern Highlands Dog Park is located by a busy intersection, so if your pooch is prone to noise anxiety it might be best to skip this park during rush hour. In that case, it is best to visit in the early morning or the evening when the park is relatively quiet and peaceful.
